Southern Arts Review

Write for us

Southern Arts Review welcomes clear, original proposals about visual art, craft, literature, performance and cultural traditions connected with the South. Pitch a story with a specific question and a reason it will matter to a general reader.

What we welcome

We are interested in accessible criticism, explanatory pieces, cultural history and close readings of creative work. A strong proposal has a distinct subject, a clear angle and a useful takeaway: what will readers understand or notice by the end? Choose a scope that can be handled carefully without unsupported claims or specialist language left unexplained.

What to include

Send a short summary of the proposed article, its central question, the likely shape of the piece and any relevant writing samples or links you can share. Tell us whether the proposal has been offered elsewhere. Do not send confidential material, private personal information or a complete draft unless we request it.

How to pitch

Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A proposal is not an assignment, and we may ask for a revision or further detail before making a decision. Please wait for agreement before beginning work on a commissioned piece.
